Nathan and Valerie Bunting
Faith Academy, Manila, Philippines

Nathan and Valerie are serving the children of missionaries at Faith Academy in Manila, Philippines through the mission organization: Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Nathan first became involved at Faith in 2002 when he moved to the Philippines to teach high school Bible. During the next four years he continued to teach Bible classes, as well as, business, student council, coaching various sports and speech teams, and participated in high school youth group. Nate has recently returned to teach one Bible elective course and to tackle the job of high school counselor this year.

Valerie moved to the Philippines in 2005 to teach in the elementary school. She has returned to teach grade four this 2007-08 school year.

Beyond the classroom...they feel that our calling is to ministry to these kids. Just because their parents are missionaries doesn't mean their kids are Christians. And those that are need mentors to come along side them and help guide their way. They do this in many exciting ways. They help with youth groups, lead Bible Studies, mentor students, and they always try to be available for these kids

The Filipino People and Culture

"The Filipino is basically of Malay stock with a sprinkling of Chinese, American, Spanish, and Arab blood... The Filipino character is actually a little bit of all the cultures put together. The bayanihan or spirit of kinship and camaraderie that Filipinos are famous for is said to be taken from Malay forefathers... The country is marked by a true blend of cultures; truly in the Philippines, East meets West... Hospitality, a trait displayed by every Filipino, makes these people legendary in Southeast Asia. Seldom can you find such hospitable people who enjoy the company of their Western visitors... The American occupation was responsible for teaching the Filipino people the English language. The Philippines is currently the third-largest English speaking country in the world... Pilipino is the official national language, with English considered as the country's unofficial one..."
